Many New Zealand supermarkets sell Australian halal brands as well as brands from Malaysia and Indonesia - they are all marked Halal on the packets. It is possible to verify if other brands are suitable by reading ALL the ingredients listed on the packets. NZ law stipulates that ingredients must be listed although be careful of additives and E-numbers. Here are pdf format lists of Food Additives published by FIANZ in October 2018 and some E numbers published by FIANZ in October 2005. Halal frozen and fresh chicken brands available in NZ supermarkets are Turks & Brinks and Quack A Duck frozen ducks are halal. For information on Tegel and Nandos we refer you to the following note published by FIANZ 31 December 2018.

If there is no Halal takeaway or restaurant in your area verify that vegetarian or fish dishes do not contain alcohol or meat stocks prior to ordering.
